An Interview With Akhil Sharma Author Of I Am A Failure

This week, I’d like to introduce author Akhil Sharma to you with his rather unusually titled motivational book ‘I am a failure‘. According to his website he is a renowned award losing entrepreneur. In his decade long career, right from being a mariner, selling credit cards to being a technologist, he is blessed to have failed almost every time. Specially designed for failure, he is using his extensive experience to conduct ‘the art of failure’ workshops through which he has helped individuals to keep up the spirit of trying despite failures and coached them how to listen to their hearts and find their real inspiration. These workshops have taught them how to be innovative and creative amidst a failure environment.

What is one thing that no-one would usually know about you?

One thing which everybody knows about me is that I am a constant failure and I had failed in most of the cases I had tried. But what they usually don’t know about me is that I am proud to be one and being referred as failure guy is like a medal of bravery to me which signifies my spirit of trying despite the odds.

Are the names of your characters important to you?

Nopes and in fact I had done the reverse here. In my book, I had not given names to any of the character. For me the names of the character are not important but the flow of the story and the concept is important and that’s the reason why I took this challenge to exclude all the names from the characters of my book.

Have you ever written naked?

Not yet but actually it’s a good idea and would try to implement it while I am writing my second book.

What is the single biggest challenge you faced when writing your book?

My book talks about failure stories and nothing else. This was the biggest challenge which I had. Failure is the most depressing aspect of anyone’s life and here I intend to disconnect the depression experience from failure totally through my stories and then to re-connect the failure with humour and positive experience in life.

It was really a tough challenge for me to elevate the readers experience about failure and gave them a happy reading journey without touching the boundaries of sadness or depression at all.

Where do you find your inspiration?

I found my inspiration in and between the beating of my heart. Surprisingly, I wasn’t aware of it until failure had beaten me from all corners of my ego, false perception and mirage of my life. When nothing was left in me and all the hopes were fading away, then I discovered some regular beating in the chest of mine. Having no other option and to focus away from the pain, I tried listening to it and gradually I discovered something which was lost until now, my inspiration.

Tea, Coffee, Water, Juice, Wine or Beer … which do you prefer when writing?

Mostly water and sometimes black coffee when my writing journey coincides with the journey of the moon and stars in the sky.

If you could commit the perfect murder where would you hide the body?

In my mind and then in my stories for my next book. I often keep committing murder of my characters and keep hiding their bodies here and there in my stories. Unfortunately, until now it’s not a perfect murder and the detective in my stories keep discovering them sooner or later.

In reality, I am a lazy person and we already have dictators, politicians and numerous others assigned to do so. Why bother at all.
