Win a Copy of ‘Travel to the G-Spot’ in The Thursday Throng Author Interview with Steve Cohen

Today, I’d like to welcome Steve Cohen to the Author interviewees’ chair with his fictional memoir of a travel writer ‘Travel to the G-Spot’. In addition to this interview, Steve is very kindly offering one lucky winner a free ebook copy of the book; all you need to do is leave a comment below to be in with a chance of winning. This would be particularly useful for those of us who dream of making it big as a travel writer!

According to Amazon “It’s a fictional memoir of a guy in our world. Danny Gladstone is a travel writer with a problem; he’s dying. He confesses that he considers travel writing an addiction that he must overcome, and admits that he’s only done it to confront his self-loathing and fear of everything. He also manages to blow the lid off a secretive world of free trips and professional perks that exposes the dirty underbelly of a filthy business that is obviously not a problem to anyone but himself.

I keep referring to my love of travel writing, but from the perspective of someone who actually lives it rather than from someone who just happens to visit and decides that focusing on the tourist traps is what we all want to read. I don’t, I want to feel like a local, to enjoy being part of a community other than my own for a while and to feel what it might be like to live in the environment permanently. Therefore I was intrigued by this book as I wanted to know what it was that drove the inner travel writer to express themselves. What I got was a funny, alternative and very valuable insight into, what can only be described as a very murky world indeed. The real stories which link the whole thing together are what makes it work; for that alone I’d recommend anyone hoping to enter this world read it, before it’s too late and you’re in too deep.

Hi Steve and welcome to the Thursday Throng. My first question for you is ‘What is one thing that no-one would usually know about you?

I have a tattoo of “Moby Dick” on my… Don’t ask. (Linda’s Aside …. really? Wasn’t that rather painful?)

What did the best review you ever had say about you and your work?

“…kinda like a little Paul Theroux, mix in some Hunter S. Thompson, add a pinch of Phillip Roth and shake vigorously.”

What did the worst review you ever had say about you and your work?

My sister said, “I’m not going to ‘like’ it on Facebook. I didn’t like it.”

Are there any occupational hazards to being an author?

Haemorrhoids are number one by far, only occasionally surpassed by the inevitable glares and accusations of “It looks like you’re not doing anything,” or even better, “Why don’t you get a ‘real’ job?” from anyone over six in your immediate family circle who sees you “working.”

Have you ever wished that you could be or do anything else instead of writing, and if so what?

I’ve always wanted to be a blind, Black piano player.

How do you remain sane while working?

Good question. I’m sure my shrink will get a laugh out of that one.

Are you jealous of other writers?

Only the very rich ones.

Tea, Coffee, Water, Juice, Wine or Beer … which do you prefer when writing?

Coffee…or bourbon.

Are there any habits you wish you didn’t have?

Coffee.

If you could commit the perfect murder where would you hide the body?

In a funeral home. (Linda’s Aside: That’s handy)

  1. Rosemary the Chickerell Chirper says:

I am an apostrophe pedant, married to a fanatical apostrophe pedant and feel compelled to point out (as this is about writing) that, in the introduction to the interview, “live’s” means “live is” and I don’t think that’s what you meant!

This book sounds interesting and, as I travel quite a lot – one does with family in New Zealand and Canada – I think I’d like to read it. ‘Have Kindle, will travel,’ as they say.
