Win a Signed Copy of Souled in The Thursday Throng Author Interview with Diana Murdock

Today, I’d like to welcome Diana Murdock to the Author Interviewee’s chair with her novel ‘Souled‘. In addtion to this interview, Diana is also offering one lucky winner a free copy of the book; all you need to do is leave a comment below to be in with a chance of winning.

According to Amazon “What 17-year-old boy wouldn’t be tempted by the promise of power and control – no matter what form that promise came in? For Seth, the temptation was much too strong to resist. And why should he? The way he saw it, he had everything to gain.

I should hold my hands up here and say that I have never been a great fan of YA literature; or should I say I never ‘thought‘ I could be a fan of YA; this huge assumption on my part, that YA is not for the likes of an oldie like me has ensured I could have missed out on some fantastic novels and stories that I would never have picked up in the past.  Diana’s novel Souled is one such, it is not something I would have picked up off the shelf, because “I never read YA“, and what a mistake that would have been. This is a gripping read and explores the rich territory of the ‘if it seems too good to be true, it probably is‘ scenario. It is a paranormal romance genre that twists and turns through the supernatural world that means you always want to know what happens next. The ending left me wondering and hoping that there will be a sequel as there is definitely more to this story that is yet to unfold.

Hi Diana and welcome to Woman on the Edge of Reality and the Thursday Throng interview. My first question for the day is ‘What is one thing that no-one would usually know about you?

I’m deep into metaphysics.  I’m in ecstasy when in a room full of psychics, numerologists, healers.  For me, the energy is a rush.  I’ve got books and books on subjects of tarot cards, parallel lives, and reincarnation.  That rocks my world.

Have you ever wished that you could be or do anything else instead of writing, and if so, what?

I have a dream of buying a big house with a lot of rooms, filling it with computers, staffing it with counselors, cooks, teachers, and going to the streets of Los Angeles and gathering the runaways and getting them off the street.  Helping them live a productive life and getting them cleaned up would be the ultimate way to spend my days.

Who would you like to play you in a film of your life?

Sandra Bullock. (Linda’s Aside: I can see why you chose Sandra :-)

What is the single biggest challenge you faced when writing your book?

Staying focused.  My mind very rarely is a single stream of thought.  It’s like a computer with ten different windows opened up.  On those rare occasions when I do calm the thoughts down, I feel like I’m at a brain spa!

What is the best excuse you have ever come up with for missing a deadline?

I never commit to anything.  Therefore, there’s nothing to miss.  I live with generalizations.  I wrote a blog, My Life is One Big –Ish, which describes my inability to be nailed down.  It drives my boys crazy, but that’s just the way I roll. (Linda’s Aside: Ish is a favourite word of mine too Diana)

Are you jealous of other writers?

I wouldn’t say jealous, because I feel there is enough success to go around.  I sometimes feel inadequate and impatient with myself that I haven’t accomplished what other successful authors have done.

Tea, Coffee, Water, Juice, Wine or Beer … which do you prefer when writing?

Morning – Coffee, mid-morning – Tea, afternoon – Water, night, usually wine.

Are there any habits you wish you didn’t have?

I give way too much of myself.  I tend to put myself last and that ends up hurting me on so many levels.

Ooooh, Diana, your first answer has set my Reiki tingles alight! ‘Souled’ sounds such a perfect read for me. I love your metaphor about having ten windows open at once, too – that is *so* how it is!

I’ve really enjoyed your interview; Linda’s questions are fun, aren’t they? (We’re up next month!)

And Linda, I thought that at 41, I was too old for YA fiction, too, but I’ve been proved wrong several times. I’m adding this one to my Amazon wishlist. 🙂
