Win a SIGNED COPY of The Chakra Diaries by Becca Chopra in this weeks Thursday Throng Author Interview

In this week’s Thursday Throng interview I have Becca Chopra, a yoga and meditation instructor and wannabe “mermaid” on the Big Island of Hawaii, in the chair. Chakra Secrets, is a fabulous autobiographical book in which Becca shares her sizzling personal story and the yoga and chakra balancing tools that have helped her on her personal path; and she is generously giving away a FREE SIGNED copy to one lucky commenter on the interview.

Chakra Diaries Book CoverAccording to Becca’s website Love heals the drama – from sex addiction to depression and cancer, happening in the lives of the captivating participants in a chakra workshop. The novel can help you learn how to balance your own chakras as you laugh, cry and maybe even jump for joy when you experience their transformation with them! All the tools for chakra balancing are contained in the novel, artfully woven into the stories.

The stories that Becca tells in The Chakra Diaries are both common and enlightening. We’ve all heard them, perhaps even experienced them – the unrequited love, the cancer diagnosis and the betrayal of those closest to us; what makes them stand out in this book though is the way that they are each woven into a stronger theme of positive change and personal development. Each story is complete in it’s own right, yet each forms a part of the whole novel. Each story talks eloquently about the chakra’s and shares a meditation you can use, yet each also forms a part of a longer, stronger meditation you could use to balance all the chakra’s. The stories are heartwarming and accessible, which where I think their strength lies.

Becca ChopraHi Becca and as usual my first question is ‘What is one thing that no-one would usually know about you?’

Hmmm, what did I not reveal in my memoir, Chakra Secrets? I pretty much bared my body and soul. But, I guess no-one would know that I visualize my book being turned into a movie while Angelina Jolie is still young enough to play me. And I know the secrets to manifesting what I want, so keep yourself in good shape, Angelina!

What did the best review you ever had say about you and your work?

“I finished Chakra Secrets the morning after I got it. I couldn’t put it down! From the very beginning, this book reached deep inside my soul and didn’t let go. The characters are so real, I feel as though I truly know them. I was inspired by both this book and it’s predecessor, The Chakra Diaries. After reading them, I felt as though anything was possible and I am capable of accomplishing great things, whether they be large or small. Every one of my emotions was touched to its very core. This is one of those rare books that I would enjoy reading over and over again.” ~ Happy Bookworm (an Amazon.com customer review)

Are there any occupational hazards to being an author?

Too much time in front of my computer; not enough time swimming with the tropical fish, turtles and dolphins in the ocean right in front of my house in Hawaii. I think all writers get obsessed with their work, their characters and may, like me, wake in the middle of the night with their best ideas on just the right way to write something – losing valuable zzzzzz’s as they drag their bodies out of bed looking for paper and pencil.

Have you ever wished that you could be or do anything else instead of writing, and if so what?

Yes, I was once an aspiring actress and still add as much drama as I can into my life, but you need even more unflinching self-esteem and patience for auditions than you do for putting your writing out there for others to read and review. But, I wouldn’t turn down a Golden Globe or Oscar for “Best Adapted Screenplay” from one of my books.

How do you remain sane while working?

“Sane” may not actually describe me, but I do get up from the computer at regular intervals to stretch, do some yoga poses on my lanai, pull up a few of the numerous weeds in my garden, dance a hula, take a walk, or go for a snorkel or a swim, anything to get out of my head and into my body for a while.

Are you jealous of other writers?

Jealousy is not even a word in my vocabulary. I’m happy for other writers’ success, am thrilled when I get a good book to bury my face into, love editing other writer’s manuscripts and offering any advice I can to other Indie Authors.

Where do you find your inspiration?

Who said “Life is stranger than fiction?” My friends, family and students have such fascinating lives that I have enough material to write ten sequels to The Chakra Diaries.

What has been the best experience you have ever had in your life?

Saving the love of my life from drowning, using a cracked old surfboard someone had left on the deserted beach where he was swimming at sunrise. I thought we might both die in the strong rip tide as I reached him, pulled him onto the board and headed back to the rocky shore. When we finally collapsed on the black sand beach, and held each other, I felt a bliss unlike anything before, in this life or any other.

What is your favourite TV moment of all time?

I guess I could watch the last episode of Sex and the City over and over again, just to see the final moment when Carrie answers her cell and we see the caller is “John,” and we not only learn Mr. Big’s real name, but that Carrie has finally found herself and found someone who loves her for herself, not as they want her to be, or how she makes them feel.

Tea, Coffee, Water, Juice, Wine or Beer … which do you prefer when writing?

While alcoholism has worked for many great writers (Ernest Hemingway, Stephen King, etc.), I’m unashamedly a health nut. You’ll always find a mug of green tea next to my desk.

Are there any habits you wish you didn’t have?

I talk too much, and can’t keep a secret, unless you’re one of my counselling clients. Even then (with your permission), you may find your story in one of my books, names changed to protect the innocent and guilty, of course.

Oh, I haven’t tried Lady Grey. I have Earl Grey at home, but I think it is a bit strong for me. My favorite will always be Twinnings Pure Green Tea. 🙂
