Life, Death and Becoming a Writer

17 Sep

It  has been funny couple of weeks, full of dramatic highs and very low, lows.  In short, it’s been LIFE in capitals and I wouldn’t have missed it for the world.

As you may have guessed by now, I write; sometimes I write good things and sometimes I write bad things – not intentionally of course, but just that some people don’t like my style that’s all.  So it was with a great deal of trepidation that I ventured down to farthest reaches of Cornwall (you really couldn’t get any further without going swimming) to write THE NOVEL. Diamonds in the desert of Cancer

13 Jun

Some of you may already know that my cousin Alex has been diagnosed with terminal cancer, and an incredibly rare one at that. What you may not know, is just how amazing Alex is because instead of giving in and giving up, she’s decided that there is a Silver Lining to Every Cloud, and as such has launched ‘Alex’s Silver Lining Appeal’ to try and raise £5,000 for a tiny charity that rescues horses and ponies based in the Brecon Beacons. Trust

17 Dec

I’ve been spending quite a bit of time pondering on the question of trust recently for a whole variety of reasons and today is the day that I decided I’d write about it.   I then decided to spend just a little time finding just the right words to try to express what I felt I needed to say and they are in the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson:

“The glory of friendship is not the outstretched hand, nor the kindly smile, nor the joy of companionship; it is the spiritual inspiration that comes to one when you discover that someone else believes in you and is willing to trust you with a friendship.”

Why is this so important to me?

In the course of our lifetime we will probably have many friends, some will be casual and we will say goodbye to them fairly quickly, others become closer for a period of time.  Then there are yet another group who are those that we would trust with our lives.  We would go to the ends of the earth for them, share their joys and their lows; we would be there in all that happens in their lives and give them much of ourselves in that sharing.

These are the people to treasure, they are those who support us unconditionally and who are willing to be supported by us in return.  They are the ones that we feel closest too and can share anything with.

Yet, there may even be one who is closer still.  They will be the person you may choose to share your deepest and darkest fears with – those things we might not even admit to ourselves in the dead of night.  That person is a rare gem indeed and someone to polish and take care of and it will hurt you when you let them down in ways that are inevitable from time to time.  But they are also the person who will still support you and be there for you through their own hurt, simply because you are their gem too.  Remember those gems, they are the ones upon which the world turns!

Friends that matter

16 Dec

There comes a point in your life when you realise:-

who matters,
who never did,
who won’t anymore…
and who always will.
So, don’t worry about people from your past,
there’s a reason why they didn’t make it to your future.

!Mama Mia!

10 Aug

I have just got in from the cinema ….. WOW is all I can say.  If you get the chance you absolutely have to see Mama Mia – it is just so gloriously life affirming, funny, sad, and you can’t help but sing along with all the songs.

I’ve seen the stage show – a couple of years ago now and that was absolutely brilliant too.  This, though is one film I’m going to see again very shortly with more friends and will even persuade me to buy a television finally – just so I can get the DVD when it is released.
